Blanche "Bea" Benda, age 44, of Yankton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003.

Bea was born on Sept. 14, 1958, to William T. and Blanche (Krage) Ward in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. For most of her childhood, she was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1976 from Heelan High School. After graduating, she continued her education at Mount Marty College earning her degree in social work. She became active at Sacred Heart Church where she later met her husband Michael Benda.

They were married on Aug. 27, 1983, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. She was involved in Birthright, Bible Study, Sacred Heart Church Choir and as a CCD teacher. She was employed at the Handicap Village in Sheldon, Iowa, as a psychiatric aide at the Human Service Center in Yankton, provided in-home daycare for 17 years and was presently employed at China Town Restaurant in Yankton.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Mike and her children Ryan, Nicole, Stephanie and Joseph, all of Yankton, S.D; her parents, William T. and Blanche (Krage) Ward of Sioux City, Iowa; five brothers: Ed Ward of Seattle, Wash., Mark and his wife Maureen of Minneapolis, Minn., Brian and his wife Angela of Yosemite, Calif., Ronnie of Arcata, Calif., and Alan and his wife Carolyn of Independence, W.Va.; three sisters: Laura Buckstead and her husband Jerry, of Sioux City, Iowa, Lucy Goebel and her husband Greg of Custer, S.D. and Curran Gerstner and her husband Kurt of Audubon, Pa. Not to mention all of her special angels, who she loved and cared for along
with their parents.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Elizabeth Benda; and her brother-in-law, Roger Benda.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton.

Pallbearers will be Bob Lefebuere, Leonard Haas, Jr., Dan Dvorak, David Boe, Joe Morrow and Dan Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be will be Ed Ward, Mark Ward, Brian Ward, Ronnie Ward, Alan Ward and Dean Caton.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday Jan. 19, 2003, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 8 p.m.
